At least 141 dead in Taliban school attack in Peshawar

23:50 p.m: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif has visited the Combine Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar and met the injured of the Taliban school attack.

23:15 p.m: Indian Prime Minister Narendar Modi telephoned Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif to express condolences on deadly attack on school in Peshawar.

23:00 p.m: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to observe two minutes of silence in every school across India to express solidarity with Pakistan.


 

22:45 p.m: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned on Tuesday a Taliban attack on a Pakistani school that left at least 130 dead, most of them students.

“It is an act of horror and rank cowardice to attack defenseless children while they learn,” Ban said at the start of a UN Security Council meeting.

“The hearts of the world go out to the parents and families who have lost loved ones.”

22:30 p.m: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan has decided to represent his party at the multi-party conference summoned by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Governor House Peshawar tomorrow.

20: 50 p.m: DG ISPR Asim Bajwa said militant’s attack on school in Peshawar has killed 141 and left 121 injured.

Asim Bajwa said insurgents that have attacked school in Peshawar are neither Muslims nor Humans. He said such brutality has never witnessed before.

The DG ISPR, Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa while referring to the Peshawar school attack as a national tragedy, has said that today it is the ‘darkest day’ of our history.

20:08 p.m: US President Barack Obama condemned the deadly Taliban raid on a Pakistani school by saying “By targeting students and teachers in this heinous attack, terrorists have once again shown their depravity.”

“We stand with the people of Pakistan, and reiterate the commitment of the United States to support the government of Pakistan in its efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and to promote peace and stability in the region”, he added.

07: 05 p.m:  Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel Sharif said on Tuesday that act of cowardice of killing innocents clearly indicate militants are not only enemy of Pakistan but also of humanity.

06: 30 p.m: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan on Tuesday called for national unity in order to fight terrorism in the country.

06:15 p.m:  Nobel peace laureate Malala Yousafzai, said that she was “heartbroken” by “the senseless and cold blooded” killing of scores of children by Taliban militants in Pakistan.

06:03 p.m: Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif has summoned a multi-party conference at the Governor House, Peshawar on Wednesday.

6:00 p.m: “We selected the army’s school for the attack because the government is targeting our families and females,” said Taliban spokesman Muhammad Umar Khorasani. “We want them to feel the pain.”

05:45 p.m: Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier in a statement condemned the criminal attack on an army-run school in Pakistan in the strongest terms.

He said in a statement “The hostage-taking and murder of children exceeds in its cruel cowardice all that Pakistan, stricken by years of terror and violence, has known before.”

“We mourn with the people of Pakistan the victims of this bloody terrorist attack. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims. For the many injured we wish speedy recoveries”, he added.

04:20 p.m: Taliban expert Ahmed Rashid spoke to foreign media and told the reasons why Taliban attacked the school at this time. According to Ahmed Rashid the main reasons are: 1. To demoralise the Army 2. Malala Yousafzai awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 3. Peshawar has become an ungovernable city

04:13 p.m: Fifth terrorist has been killed in the operation by Pakistan Army. Two more children and two staff members have been rescued as well.

04: 10 p.m: Another blast was heard from inside Army Public School. This is the 14th explosion to be heard from the school today.

12:39 p.m: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the violent incident and ordered the safe rescue of the children trapped inside the school.

Taliban militants stormed the Army Public School in Peshawar in broad daylight in a latest major offensive after military operation currently underway.

Five or six militants wearing military uniforms have entered the Army Public School in the city of Peshawar, a source at the school told AFP.The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the gunmen had been ordered to shoot older students but not children.

TTP spokesman Muhammad Khorasani told AFP there were six attackers.

“They include target killers and suicide attackers. They have been ordered to shoot the older students but not the children,” he said.

“There has been an incident of firing at Army Public School in Peshawar. Troops have cordoned off the area and (are) searching for the militants,” a senior military official told AFP. (AFP)
