10mn SIMs blocked, 60mn verified in first phase: PTA

ISLAMABAD: The first phase of biometric verification of SIMs ended while three weeks long second phase started from today, ARY News reported.

According to Dr Ismail Shah, Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), 10 million unverified SIMs have been blocked.

Sources quoted Dr Ismail Shah as saying that in the second phase, there are around 30.5 million SIMs which were to be verified.

“Consumers will be notified regarding second phase of verification through SMS”, he added.

Meanwhile, blocking of three or more SIMs on one CNIC will start from today.

As per details, 60 millions SIMs were verified during the first phase.

It is pertinent to mention that the government in collaboration with the telecom operators had launched SIMs biometric verification on Jan 13 as a step to curb terrorism in the country.
