KARACHI: Prolific Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi has said that 2017 is a year of development and success for the country.

In his 140-second video clip posted on Twitter, Shahid Afridi felicitated new year greetings to everyone.

Pakistan’s former one-day and Twenty20 captain said, “If we take a look at the past 25 to 30 years, Pakistan passed through some difficult times but this is a time not for sacrifices but it is for development and success.

He added that Pakistan has given a lot of sacrifices and he believed that the main problem lied with the security situation for which he congratulated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, ex-army chief general (retd.) Raheel Sharif along with his team as 2016 was a better year compared to the past several years.

He prayed that Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa follows the same path and Pakistan keeps on progressing.

Afridi also said, “We need to recognized our friends and enemies. The nation is sensible. We should see who our allies are and who our enemies are.”

The cricketer said that the society can develop when the masses are brought on the higher-levels of the society. “There are people working for the society but now they need to do more,” he added.

He expressed his optimism that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will end unemployment and reduce crime rate. He added that crime takes place due to unemployment.
