KARACHI: Police have arrested around 50 employees of Irrigation Department from outside of Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Monday, ARY News reported.
The protesting employees were demanding for payment of arrears of their salaries, service quota, son quota and government residencies.
Police tried to stop them through baton charge and fired teargas shells to disperse them. However, this did not quell the protesters and they reorganized and started marching towards Sindh Assembly. Then, police washed them with water cannons and caught them and transferred to Artillery Medan police station.
Many demonstrators were left injured and several others collapsed. Police said the employees tried to enter red zone, therefore, they had to take action against them.
