The processions are carried out to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala. The mourning procession consisted of shabi Zuljinah, Alam, tazia, taboot and Ghewara Shehzada Ali Asghar. The participants recited the sacrifices rendered by Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), his companions and family members at Karbala.
The government has asked all security, intelligence and law enforcement agencies to stay alert in view of security threats on Muharram processions.
Mobile phone services have also been suspended for 20 hours each on 9th and 10th of Muharram in different parts of the country as part of a security measure to prevent any untoward incident.
