The woman has accused playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya of touching her inappropriately and also abusing her during a concert this week at singer Kailash Kher. The incident occurred during the Durga puja celebrations. An offence was registered against Abhijeet under IPC sections of 354 (a) (sexual harassment), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 34.
The incident took place at Lokhandwala during the celebrations around 10 pm, in which Bhattacharya is also one of the organisers. However, the singer denied claims that he had molested the woman and instead maintained that they had an argument. Abhijeets friends also disclosed that the singer and the woman had been embroiled in an argument, since she was not moving, which was blocking the view.
A policeman stated, “While the programme was going on, a woman stood up in between (the rows of the audience) that blocked the view of stage for the people sitting behind. People started shouting at her and when she did not listen, Abhijeet himself made her sit down.”
“While trying to move away the victim from where she stood up, Abhijeet allegedly touched and caught her inappropriately,” he added, quoting from a complaint filed by the victim. However, he added that there was no reason to call the singer, until and unless the police did not complete their full inquiry into the matter.
Abhijeet has been making controversial comments and was being covered in the media for his comments against Pakistani artist Ghulam Ali, whom he called a ‘dengue artist from a terrorist country’.
