Hundreds of party activists and supporters gathered to see him for the first time in three years. They waived party flags and chanted slogans in support of Gillani family. Many were overjoyed and danced to drum beats to express their feelings on the occasion.
While speaking to the media, Ali Haider Gillani said that he was happy to be among his own people. He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and said that it would not have been possible without patience and prayers.
The recently freed son of former PM thanked all those who prayed for him and said that the pain he endured would wither away but the memories will remain forever.

Meanwhile, President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani telephoned Yousuf Raza Gillani and congratulated on the release of his son.
The Afghan president extended best wishes to the Gillani family. He stressed on the need for making joint efforts to fight terrorism.
During the conversation, Gillani thanked the Afghan and the United States (US) security forces for their joint operation that help secure his son’s release. He said that he will personally visit Afghanistan to thank them.
