While others witnessed a lukewarm fan response due to the poor team performance, the wicket keeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed was received with open arms and lot of fanfare for his amazing performance in the two group matches he played.

Not only the family but the whole alley that houses Sarfraz’s residence came out to welcome the wicket keeper batsman. The children and elders lighted the whole alley with lamps and congratulated the cricketer along with his family.

Sarfraz’s performance in the two group matches against South Africa and Ireland sealed quarter final berth for an otherwise failing Pakistani lot in the Cricket World Cup 2015.

Against South Africa, he took a world-record equaling six catches and also appeared to be the team’s most-dangerous batsman with a big-hitting 49.

While against Ireland, Sarfraz’s maiden ODI century steered Pakistan into the quarter final of Cricket world’s biggest event.

Amongst those coming home with Sarfraz in Karachi, only Shahid Afridi talked to some fans and apologised for his poor performance in the World Cup.

While those reached the night between Sunday and Monday were Captain Misbah-Ul-Haq, bowler Wahab Riaz, Sohaib Maqsood, Rahat Ali, Muhammad Irfan, Ehsan Adil, Coach Mushtaq Ahmed and Manager Naveed Cheema.

None talked to media except the winning hero of the lost quarter final Wahab Riaz who also apologised to the nation for team’s dismal performance.

It must be mentioned that Wahab Riaz’s lethal bowling spell against Australia in the quarterfinal become one of the highlights of the World Cup cricket where he impressed the cricketing geniuses of past and present alike.

Wahab Riaz was in tears when Pakistan lost the match to Australia resulting in the national team’s ouster from the World Cup.

Rest of the players and officials of the team silently went to their homes through the old building of Lahore airport due to security reasons.
