Altaf Hussain declared absconder

KARACHI: An Anti Terrorism Court on Saturday declared Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain as proclaimed offender, ARY News reported on Saturday.

The police report submitted in the court said that the nominated accused was out of the country and could not be produced before the court.

The court ordered the police to submit a report in the court about progress on the issue on September 22. The court also sought an opinion on the legal aspects of the arrest of Altaf Hussain from concerned authorities.

The Rangers had filed a case in March against MQM chief Altaf Hussain for allegedly threatening them. The case was registered at the Civil Lines police station of Karachi on the complaint of Rangers spokesperson Colonel Tahir Mehmood.

The case filed against the MQM chief for threatening the Rangers spokesperson and other personnel following a pre-dawn raid on the MQM headquarters, Nine-Zero on March 11 this year.

In the complaint the Rangers spokesperson said the MQM chief had threatened Rangers personnel involved in the Nine-Zero raid in a television interview.
