Altaf Hussain has announced to step down as MQM Chairman over the “nation’s silence” over the statement issued by Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif regarding Muhajirs.

The announcement was made by Altaf Hussain while talking to a private news channel.

Khawaja Asif had stated that ‘real Muhajirs’ are the ones who had migrated to the country from Indian regions of Jalandhar and Ludhiana.

Hussain stated that two million people from Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Hyderabad, Aligarh, Lucknow and Agra had migrated to Pakistan at the time of the partition.

“His (Khawaja Asif) statements cancels the sacrifices rendered by the Muslims who migrated from the minority regions to Pakistan”, he said.

“We were made fun of and the assembly remained silent. It is enough, I cannot lead the party from now on”, he added.
