According to details, police sprung into action a week after 15-year old girl Ambreen was set on fire inside a van and took into custody ten suspects who were allegedly involved in the heinous act. The elders of a jirga community were also among those who were arrested by the police. A couple of months earlier, Ambreen’s friend Saima was also killed for allegedly being in love with a boy.

Ambreen had been blamed for supporting the alleged affair of Saima with the boy. A jirga or tribal council had conducted its proceedings a couple of days earlier and had given the verdict to burn alive Ambreen. The orders of the jirga had been implemented as the teenage girl was tied to the seat of a Suzuki Carry vehicle and set on fire. In order to hide their crime, the suspects also burnt two other cars nearby.

Sources disclosed that five accomplices were on the run and police are on the hunt for them. The tragic incident had drawn condemnations from all around as Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak and National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Human Rights had also taken notice of the crime and called for strict action against those were involved in Ambreen’s murder.
