The PK star has taken offense to the AIB roast of actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, hosted by ‘roastmaster’ Karan Johar. Among those in attendance were Bollywood big names such as actress Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt and actor Sanjay Kapoor.
“I don’t like to show you violence. I am sure there are lot of young people who have liked the show. My opinion is that it was a violent show. Karan (Johar) and Arjun (Kapoor) are my friends and I scolded them and told them that I was not impressed with it. I am not someone who can laugh at abuses and bad language, I think I have passed that age. I am not a 14 year-old who will laugh at abuses. I am not impressed. I personally have a problem with what they have done, therefore I have not seen the show. I felt that this is not my type of show, that’s why I haven’t seen it,” said Amir Khan at Youth for Governance 2015 (YFG) in Mumbai.
“I have not yet seen that roast, but I have heard a lot about it roast’. And I have seen 2-3 clips of that, I was deeply affected by that and I was most disappointed in what I was hearing. I completely believe in freedom of speech no issues, but we have to understand we all have certain responsibilities. When I heard what was being described to me I felt it was a very violent event. I do not like such things. Violence does not mean only physical, it can be verbal too. When you insult someone, you are perpetuating violence. When you are abusing or insulting someone, you are showing the world how violent you are,” said Amir Khan.
Amir Khan has in the past also produced the film Delhi Belly, which contained lots of profanities and adult jokes. However, the star stated that he had informed audiences earlier that the film was for adults and should only be viewed by them.
The AIB roast, which made fun of Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh by their consent, also made crude, vulgar and offensive digs at various celebrities. Salman Khan’s sister Arpita Khan was also made the butt of a few Arjun Kapoor jokes, which were edited out. The controversial video was pulled down by the AIB’s Youtube channel after a scathing reaction came from the public due to the bold content.
The troubles do not keep ending for Ranveer, Arjun and Karan. First, an FIR was launched against the trio and then Maharashtra police stated that a probe would be conducted to determine if the video was indeed vulgar. The troubles keep on mounting for the three celebrities as more and more of their colleagues condemn the roast. I guess they should have heeded the saying: ‘Better safe than sorry!’
