Anti-polio drive underway in KP

TOP NEWS

The anti-polio drive was delayed after the attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School in which 144 people including 132 children and nine staff members were killed.

The drive will be held in 22 districts of KP in which 28,75,000 children will be immunized from the virus.

Health Department of the province has formed 8,000 mobile teams, 712 regional teams and 1800 regional supervisors for the three-day drive. The department has stated that all efforts will be made to attain the target.

Strict security measures have been taken on the occasion.

Pakistan is amongst the only three countries of the world where polio cases are reported. The country was slapped with travel restriction by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The attacks on polio teams and the refusal of parents to immunize their children are one of the contributing factors to the increase in polio cases each year.
