Anti-polio drive underway in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A one day anti-polio drive is underway in Peshawar on Sunday in which more than 700,000 children will be administered polio drops, ARY News reports.

More than 4000 polio teams have been formed for the drive today.

Strict security measures have been adopted for the drive against the virus. Section 144 has been imposed in the city whereas a ban has been placed on riding a motorcycle till 05:00 p.m.

It should be noted that Pakistan is amongst the only three countries of the world with polio virus alongwith Nigeria and Afghanistan.

Attack on polio teams and parents’ reluctance to immunize their children are one of the deadlocks in eradicating the virus from the country.
