Arms procurement: Top Sindh official shown the door

KARACHI: Another senior official was relieved from his duties over the procurement of latest weaponry for Sindh Police. In the latest episode, Home Secretary Sindh, Dr Niaz Abbasi was removed from his post for not fulfilling the task, ARY news reported.

According to details, arms procurement for Sindh Police worth of Rs 6 billion has become a major concern for senior officials. So far two senior officials relating to the matter have been removed from their respective posts.

Earlier, IG Sindh Iqbal Mehmood was relieved from his duties and his services were surrendered to the Centre.

Sources privy to the matter told that some influential figures seek the procurement of arms in contrast with rules and regulations, while the matter is still sub judice.

The government intends to purchase armored personnel carriers (APCs) and bullet-proof jackets for Sindh Police.

It was further reported that an APC actually worth of Rs 5 crore will be purchased at a cost of Rs 39 crore, while no one knows as to where this additional Rs 34 crore will go, but this entire matter has become a major concern for senior officials.
