Army chief meets US military and political high-ups

WASHINGTON: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif held meetings with members of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senate Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence during his ongoing visit to the United States, ARY News reported.

According to Inter Services Public Relations, the committee acknowledged that due to the successful operations of the Pakistani security forces, militants’ command and control infrastructure had been destroyed in North Waziristan.

The COAS highlighted that Pakistan military was confident to hold their gains in FATA to ensure that terrorists are not able to return or establish their operational basis on the Pakistani soil.

General Sharif also briefed the Senators about Pakistan’s plans to rehabilitate the dislocated people from Waziristan at the earliest possible.

Overall security situation in the region and matters relating to Afghanistan were also discussed in the meeting.
