The blast was reported from Dasht area of Mastung. The blast hit Rawalpindi-bound Jaffar Express when it reached Tehsil Dasht , located a few kilometers from Quetta.
According to Bomb Disposal Squad, an explosive weighing 8 kilograms was used in the blast.
Anwar Sammo, a senior government official, told AFP that an IED (improvised explosive device) was used in the attack.
“The IED was planted on the railway track. All those killed and injured were railway employees,” Sammo said, adding that some 650 passengers were travelling in the train.
The rescue and security teams immediately rushed to the spot and helped shifting the injured to the hospital.
Officials are determining the nature of the blast. Security forces are also conducting search operation the area. It is learnt that explosives were planted on the railway track, however official statement is yet to be given in this regard.
The spot has been cordoned off for investigation.
