ATC grants four-day remand of Dr Asim to Rangers

Dr Asim Hussain was produced in the ATC court today under stringent security.

Prosecutor General Shahadat Awan in his arguments asked for further four days remand of Asim Hussain. The defence lawyers opposed the demand for further remand of the accused after he completed 90 days detention period.

The case reached to an interesting point when the Rangers’ counsel contradicted the Prosecutor General’s remand request and pleaded for 14 days remand to further interrogate the accused.

ATC Judge Rehmatullah Phulpoto granted four days’ remand of the accused.

A FIR under terrorism charges has been regitered against Dr Asim Hussain.

According to sources, three MQM leaders Waseem Akhtar, Saleem Shahzad and Anees Qaimkhani and PPP leader Qadir Patel have also been booked in the case.

Dr Asim, a former federal minister in PPP government, remained under custody of Rangers on suspicion of links with terrorists. An Anti-Terrorism Court had granted 90 days’ detention of Dr. Asim Hussain to Rangers for interrogation about terrorism charges.

Dr Asim, as per a joint investigation team (JIT) report, is accused of facilitating terrorists and providing medical treatment to them at his hospital.

Moreover, the names of Dr Asim and for Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon have been placed in the exit control list (ECL) on the recommendation of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sindh.

Sharjeel Memon is currently out of the country for last few months.
