Sadiq was the speaker of the lower house when a decision of an election tribunal cancelled his election and ordered by-election in Lahore’s National Assembly constituency NA-122.

Ayaz Sadiq returned elected from the constituency after close contest with Aleem Khan, the candidate of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI).

Riazul Haq Juj, Babar Nawaz Khan and Dr Shazia Soomro also sworn in as members of the house.

The election for the National Assembly Speaker will be held on November 9 (Monday).

Leader of Opposition Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that the PPP will neither field a candidate nor support an opponent fielded by the PTI if PML-N nominates Sardar Ayaz Sadiq as its candidate.

According to reports Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)  is expected to name Ayaz Sadiq for the NA Speaker’s election while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Shafqat Mehmood to contest the election.

MQM returns to NA

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members also returned to the house after taking back their resignations.

MQM members of the Parliament and Sindh Assembly had tendered their resignations on August 12 this year, against what it called the extrajudicial killings and disappearances of the party workers at the hands of the law enforcement agencies in Karachi.

Earlier, the federal government had issued a notification on October 16 to form a five-member grievances redressal committee that was given the mandate to register and resolve concerns raised by the MQM related to the Rangers-led security operation in Karachi.
