Aziz extends SAARC summit invitations in Nepal meetings

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz extended invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other South Asian leaders to attend the SAARC summit in Islamabad in November this year.

Aziz handed over the formal invitation to Indian prime minister from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of the Saarc Council of Ministers Meeting in Pokhara, Nepal.

Sartaj Aziz also held separate one on one meetings with his counterparts from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka in Pokhara, Nepal, according to a statement of the foreign office in Islamabad.

The Adviser handed over formal invitation letters from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, addressed to the heads of states/governments of the SAARC member countries for the 19th SAARC Summit to be held on November 9-10, 2016 in Islamabad.

During the meetings, issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
