BCCI secretary says “cant’t play cricket with Pakistan”

NEW DELHI: Amid many speculations over proposed cricket series between Pakistan and India, the secretary of Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) Anurag Thakur has come up with another volte-face, dampening chances of any bilateral series.

According to Thakur, “We cannot play cricket with Pakistan when people are dying on the border,” reported the NDTV.

“We want peace with neighbours. Even the Prime Minister Modi wants that. But Pakistan have to be serious on terror,” he was reported as saying.

Thakur said, “We play Pakistan in the World Cup. We played them in the 2015 World Cup, we’ll play them next year in the Asia Cup. Then we’ll again play them in the month of March in World T20. So when you play them in a multinational tournament in world events, then what stops you from playing them in a bilateral series. So that’s the question we have to answer.”

On December 4, India media had run reports attributing to Thakur as saying that decision on Pak-India series was expected in two days. However, it never happened.

In August, Thakur was mocked in the social media for refusing to play cricket with Pakistan over Dawood Ibrahim’s alleged presence in Karachi.
