Brisbane wins despite Malik's heroics

BRISBANE: Hobart Hurricanes lost to Brisbane Heat by 18 runs in their Big Bash League fixture at Brisbane despite heroics from Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik, ARY News reports.

The Hurricanes won the toss and chose to field first in the match.

The home side scored 198/6 runs in their 20 overs thanks to Chris Lynn’s blistering knock of 81 runs from 35 balls. Peter Forrest scored 46 runs from 48 balls.

Ben Cutting made 24 from eight deliveries whereas Daniel Christian and Nathan Reardon each scored 20 runs for their side.

Shoaib Malik picked up three wickets in the innings whereas Ben Hilfenhaus, Evan Gulbis and Cameron Boyce shared one wicket each.

Needing 199 to win, the visitors fell 18 runs short of the target as they put up 180/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Shoaib Malik scored 42 runs from 23 balls whereas Ben Hilfenhaus contributed 38 runs from 31 balls.

Michael Hill scored 26 runs from 19 deliveries whereas Cameron Boyce made 24 runs from nine balls.

Mark Steketee and Daniel Christian took two wickets each for the host side while James Hopes, Stephen Parry and Ben Cutting took one wicket each.

The win gives Brisbane Heat two points in the table.
