ISLAMABAD: The sixth population and housing census will start across the country from 15th of next month and it will be completed by the 25th of May.

During the process, census teams comprising one government official and one army Jawan each will go door to door nationwide.

According to census officials, the citizens have been asked to keep with them the CNIC of family head and provide accurate information to census staff.

The census will help in comprehensive policymaking, assessment of day-to-day needs, effective planning at grassroots level, efficient allocation of development funds and good governance through better management, officials said.

Recently, Chief Census Commissioner Asif Bajwa said Pakistan Army will provide security for the census drive. He added, “Terrorism will not have impact on the drive. We cannot predict the future, however the military is with us for the campaign.”

Shedding light on the history of census in the region, he said that it took place for the first time in 1881 and the first census of Pakistan took place in 1951.

Census chief stated that the scheduled census in 2008 was delayed due to security reasons. He said that the delimitation of the assembly constituencies will take place after the population count.
