Civil society wants contempt proceedings against Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: The civil society had submitted a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

They maintained that eleven heritage buildings risked damaged as they were in the path of the Orange Line train project. The court had order all construction near them to be stopped immediately.

Shahbaz Sharif has repeatedly vowed to tackle the civil society members who filed the petition claiming that they are a hindrance in the project, and has also regularly criticized the courts for the decision.

The civil society claimed that the provocative speeches of the Chief Minister and his cabinet members amount to contempt of court and requested the court to initiate proceedings against them.

Earlier, the Registrar of the LHC had returned the petition after adding certain objection against it. The appellant resubmitted the petition after the objections were removed.
