Unknown assailants waylaid Masood, 55, near Hyderi Market and opened fire on him, thus resulting his death. He was aboard his car when he came under attack.
Masood sustained fatal bullet wounds in his chest. He died on the way to hospital. The deceased cleric was serving a teacher at Jamia Binoria and also a lecturer at University of Karachi.
Mufti Naeem, speaking to ARY News, said Masood was his son-in-law.
Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad expressed his grief over the death of Maulana Masood Baig and sought report from inspector general Sindh of the incident. He asked the police authorities to ensure early arrest of the culprits and adopt steps to prevent such killings in future.
It may be noted here that the elder son of former senator Allama Abbas Kumaili was shot dead in Karachi in a targeted attack near Azizabad on Saturday. Investigation sources had hinted that Allama Ali Akbar Kumaili was killed on sectarian grounds.
