Rangers detain MQM leaders after attack on ARY News

Farooq Sattar, accompanied by Khawaja Izharul Hassan and Arshad Vohra arrived at KPC allegedly to explain MQM’s viewpoint on attack on ARY News office but Rangers personnel took the trio in their custody.

Reports suggest other party leaders Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain, Amir Khan and Sajid Ahmed too were arrested from different areas of the city.

Amir Liaquat Hussain, who is also a television personality, was taken into custody from his office on I.I. Chundrigar Road.

It is so far not known that the MQM leaders were arrested or just taken into preventive detention.

Earlier in the day, MQM workers ransacked ARY News office in Karachi’s Saddar area, damaged property and injured workers of the media group.

The attack, which injured three people and saw the marketing department of media house’s Saddar office badly damaged, was widely condemned by government officials, law enforcement officials, media workers and people from all walks of life.

MQM leaders arrested for identification of those who attacked media houses: DG Rangers

Director General Sindh Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar told ARY News that Rangers had brought MQM leaders for identification of the people who were present at the time of MQM chief’s instigating speech at hunger strike camp and identification of those who attacked media houses.

To a query, he said movement of Rangers was blocked by the mob protesting at the hunger strike camp and they thought that the assailants were a bunch of people who would be handled by police and police did their job well. Later, on call of police we had reached at the crime scene.
