Countrywide sit-ins against Altaf Hussain’s arrest

KARACHI: Sit-ins are being staged in the major cities of Pakistan against the arrest of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain, ARY News reports on Wednesday.

MQM Chief Altaf Hussain was arrested in London on Tuesday over charges of money laundering.

A sit-in is being held at Numaish Intersection in Karachi.

Large numbers of citizens and MQM workers gathered at Press Club in Lahore and held a sit-in over the arrest of the MQM Chief.

The participants have said that the sit-in demonstration will continue till Altaf Hussain is released.

MQM workers in Faisalabad are also holding a demonstratory sit-in at the press club in District Council Road. The supporters of MQM are also protesting at Tariq Road of Multan.

A sit is also being staged at Quetta Press club against the arrest of Altaf Hussain whereas MQM supporters have also sat down in Peshawar Press Club.

Large number of MQM supporters and citizens are staging a sit-in at Sukkur. The situation is no different in Hyderabad where large number of people are protesting against the arrest of Altaf Hussain.

Karachi shuts down:

Commercial and educational centres in Karachi were closed after the news of Altaf Hussain’s arrest spread like wildfire.

Public transport is mostly off road due to which the citizens are facing severe problems. President of Karachi Transport Ittehad Irshad Bukhari has said that public transport will be brought on the road after reviewing the law and order situation in the city.

Majority of examinations scheduled for today have been postponed as well.
