LAHORE: Lahore High Court on Thursday summoned records regarding the appointment of Absar Alam as Chairman Pemra, ARY News reported.
LHC hearing the case against the appointment of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) chairman Absar Alam.
The petition said that Alam was appointed on the position in violation to the law and the merit.
“He was given the top job of the electronic media oversight due to his closeness with the government,” the petition claimed.
The petitioner pleaded to the court to dismiss Alam from the office.
The court, after hearing the arguments, summoned the advertisements, applications and the list of candidates shortlisted for the job.
The federal government had appointed Absar Alam, a working journalist, as the chairman of the electronic media regulatory body on October 2015.
