Masked policemen on Saturday May 23, during appearance of Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza in the court subjected the media persons to torture and broken cameras and other equipment of some mediamen.

Charges will be framed against I.G. Police and other responsible officers on May 28, the bench observed.

Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, who headed division bench, on Monday came down heavily on IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali for his failure to protect the court and ordered the police officials including the police chief to submit affidavits in court.

The bench had issued notices to the top police officials to show cause as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them for obstructing the course of justice and lowering the dignity of the court.

The police officials were also directed to file affidavits on Tuesday (today) detailing the name of each and every officer who participated in such operation after watching the CCTV footage.

The chief secretary and home secretary, who appeared on the court’s notice, were also directed to file the point of view of the provincial government and explain on whose direction the SHC was cordoned off and who authorised plain-clothed policemen to participate in the operation.

The bench in the hearing today rejected the affidavits filed by the police officers and observed that the charges will be framed against I.G. Police and other responsible officers in the contempt hearing on May 28.
