Earlier, Barett was presented in the court by officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) who pleaded the court to allow for his deportation from Pakistan.

The court said that the matter is under the Ministry of Interior and asked for the order. The investigation officer informed the court that original copy was not available. As a result, the court rejected the pleas and refused to allow his deportation.

It was known that the government was considering deporting Barett. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that he was not a spy and will not face espionage charges. However, an inquiry will be launched to ascertain how he managed to enter the country and receive visa while on the blacklist.
