Court rejects Indian lawyer's plea to repatriate Geeta

KARACHI: A local court in the city on Thursday rejected a petition seeking repatriation of Geeta, a deaf and mute girl stuck in Pakistan for 15 years, to India.

The petition was filed by an Indian lawyer Momin Malik through Pakistani lawyers under Section 552 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

During the hearing today, Geeta recorded her statement to the court through gestures. She replied in negative when asked whether Faisal Edhi has forcefully kept her at the Edhi shelter home.

She said she wants to go home (India) with Faisal Edhi.

Court was told that the girl has been living in Pakistan for 15 years when she accidentally crossed the border and entered Pakistan. The Punjab police had arrested her back then.

After hearing the arguments, the court rejected the petition and ordered the petitioner to adopt diplomatic course and government channels to send her back to India.
