Crackdown launched against spurious drugs nationwide

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry for National Health Services has launched a crackdown against illegal manufacturing of drugs to arrest the menace of spurious and non-licensed drugs and manufacturing units.

The directives have been issued by Minister for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar.  The ministry’s inspection team raid a company, Azfar Laboratory, located in the industrial area of north Karachi.

The company was reported to be involved in the manufacturing of spurious and counterfeit drugs. They seized a large quantity of finished drugs, process materials and packaging materials.

Minister for National Health Services has asked the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) to not spare anyone and show zero tolerance for spurious drugs, in order to eradicate the menace and safeguard health of the people.

The DRAP is taking stern action against violators of drug laws without being influenced, and has launched a new drive for collective efforts with all provinces so that spurious, falsified, substandard drugs could be eradicated from the country.

Minister for National Health Services has appreciated DRAP teams to unearth these crimes and violations of drug laws whether allopathic drugs or under the cover of alternate, herbal or health products.
