KARACHI: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that Cyclone Nilofar has been situated at 875 kilometers’ distance from Karachi in the Arabian Sea.
According to ARY News, the cyclone has further strengthened. The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall along Sindh and Balochistan coasts from Wednesday night.
The evacuation of the people from the coastal belt has been stepped up after provincial disaster management body advised the Sindh government for it yesterday.
Under the influence of the weather system, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected with gusty winds along the coastal belt of Sindh and Balochistan.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Sindh advised the Sindh government yesterday for immediate evacuation of the people in Sujawal, Thatta, Badin, Karachi South, Malir and Korangi living near the coastal belt and in low-lying areas.
The meeting on Tuesday also decided removal of all vulnerable billboards. The staff of the KMC and Cantonment Boards had started removal of the billboards in Karachi by Tuesday night, local television reports suggests.
The coastal district authorities have declared emergency in all hospitals while the district governments will update the PDMA officials about the situation on a daily basis.
The government also considering over closure of the schools.
