Death warrants of Saulat Mirza issued

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court of Karachi on Wednesday issued the death warrants of Saulat Mirza who will be executed on March 19, ARY News reported.

The jail authorities had filed a request with an ATC in Karachi requesting for issuance of death warrant for the death row prisoner, who is an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Mirza was sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court in May 1999 for murdering the managing director of then Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Shahid Hamid, his driver Ashraf Brohi and guard Khan Akbar in July 1997.

Earlier, the hanging orders of death row convict Saulat Mirza was put on hold on the orders of the federal government.

Mirza was moved along with some high-profile prisoners to Balochistan’s Machh jail, in April 2014. Mirza’s brother filed a petition in court for his return to Karachi jail. The petition argued that his brother had been shifted to the Machh without the orders of the competent authority. The petition had been disposed of by provincial authorities on security reasons
