Deaths from starvation still relentless in Thar

MITHI: The deaths and human sufferings due to famine-like situation in Tharparkar are continuing to haunt the denizens. Another two minor children breathed their last in the district on Monday, ARY News reported.

The latest deaths are reported from Diplo’s village Danai. The death toll in last 30 days has reached 48. While 57 children are still admitted at different hospitals of the district.

Several children are being treated at hospitals in different villages including Diplo, Chachro and Islamkot. The provincial health department has confirmed deaths of over 600 children in Tharparkar in last eight months.

Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had issued a show-cause notice to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and party leader Manzoor Wassan last week, questioning their handling of Thar situation.

However, the PPP chairperson withdrew his notice on Saturday on grounds that the internal party inquiry was underway on the issue and any decision will be taken after its conclusion.
