Doctor injured in firing at Islamabad's PIMS hospital

ISLAMABAD: Unknown assailants on Saturday injured a doctor at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital here in Islamabad, ARY News reported.

According to details, Head of Cardiology Department, Dr Shahid Nawaz was leaving for home when unknown attackers shot him in the head and fled away from the crime scene.

Dr Shahid Nawaz was immediately taken to the emergency ward, where he is reported to be in precarious condition.

In reaction to the firing incident, PIMS spokesperson Waseem Khwaja demanded the government to issue arms licenses to doctors for their personal safety.

Sources said that there were two assailants who shot Dr Shahid Nawaz.

Police have prepared sketches of the attackers and a probe has been underway.
