ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistani all-rounder Abdul Razzaq firmly believes only captaincy should not be blamed for Pakistan’s horrendous defeats against Australia and said that the entire team should also accept the weight since it actually ‘lacks talent’.

“No one should blame captaincy for the recent defeats. Captaincy works only if you have a talented team with good all-rounders and skilled players. Moreover, conditions in Australia are hard and this is why we could not perform well,” he said while speaking to a Dubai-based newspaper.

Razzaq added that as a player who had played for Pakistan it was very painful to see the team in such as a failing situation.

“Pakistan to reach a stage of not being sure of qualifying for the World Cup is bad and if it did not qualify, the team will feel the pain too. I only hope that in the coming days they (team) win matches and do not have to go through the process of playing in the qualifying rounds.”

Razzaq said that the “Pakistan team lacked talent”.

“They do not have players of the great calibre like it used to be a case in the past and the players are mentally weak,” he said and added that Pakistan also failed to produce all-rounders in the recent years, an area Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) must look into.
