According to details, Dr Asim’s absence today from the proceedings of an accountability court irked the judges who demanded as to why the suspect had not been presented for the trial. In response, Dr Asim’s lawyer also replied that he was not aware as to the reason of his client’s absence from the hearing. It was at this point that jail authorities presented Dr Asim’s medical report before the court.
According to details contained in the medical report, Dr Asim was not well and his mental condition was also not stable hence he could not be presented before the court. The report also stated that he was undergoing treatment at Jinnah Hospital.
An inquiry report in an accountability court had accused Dr Asim of causing Rs450 billion to the national kitty through corruption, money laundering, illegal allotment of land and other crimes. The suspect is a former petroleum minister as well as a close confidant of former president and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari.
