ECP clarifies on extra ballot printing

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday came up with a reply to Imran Khan’s allegations regarding printing of extra ballot papers with intent to rig general elections 2013, ARY News reported.

In a statement here, the ECP said a total of 9.3 million extra ballot papers were printed for elections in 2013.

Director General Election Commission Masood Malik said extra ballot papers were printed under a need, instead of rigging the polls.

According to ECP, during general elections 2008, as many as 9 million extra ballot papers were printed, whereas for 2002 general elections, a total of 9.4 million extra ballot papers were printed.

The ECP further said that for 1997 general elections, 8.34 million extra ballot papers were printed.
