ECP gears to initiate reference proceedings against PM

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to initiate reference proceedings seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, ARY News reported. 

In this regard, the ECP has issued notices to  all political parties who filed the references to appear on 3rd August.

Previously, the ECP has shown its inability to file the reference as several members have not been nominated after the retirement of its predecessors. However, the Supreme Court took notice of the matter and ordered the government to appoint new members by 27th July, which was duly complied.

Now, the ECP has undertaken the arduous challenge to initiate proceedings in the references filed by several political parties including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), and the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT).

All parties have alleged the Nawaz Sharif concealed his personal assets which was revealed in the Panama Papers and evaded taxes.
