Violation of code: ECP suspends PM's Kisan package until LG polls

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared Kisan package in violation of the code of conduct, ARY News reported.

In its verdict, the ECP said the electoral process was being affected due to announcement of Kisan package.

The ECP said there was no mention of the Kisan package in the budget 2015-16.

The election commission raised objections on three points of the relief package for peasants and said it had stopped implementation on the government package till December 3.

It said the package announcement was in violation of the election code of conduct. PM Sharif on September 15 had announced a relief package of over Rs 340 billion for the peasants at a Kisan convention in Islamabad.

He had said that Rs 40 billion will be spent for payment of cash grants to the small growers of rice and cotton.

“The government has decided to give cash assistance of Rs 5000 per acre to the farmers having land of 12.5 acre,” he said.
