Eight die by electrocution in Karachi during rainfall

The first heavy rain of monsoon in the city disrupted normal life exposing the claims of local authorities about preparations for rain emergency.

The low-lying areas of the city submerged under rainwater and the sewerage water.

Around two inches of rain in the metropolis disrupted power supply in several areas of the city as 250 feeders of K-Electric tripped during the rainfall.

The downpour also affected the flow of traffic and caused damage to civic infrastructure. A large number of people, in a rush to go home, were stuck in traffic jams for hours on almost all major thoroughfares of the city.

According to reports from interior of Sindh, in Mirpurkhas, Badin and Sanghar districts life was paralysed by flooding caused by the downpour for the second day. Almost all roads and streets were submerged. A man was killed by lightning in a village of Sanghar district.

The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rains in lower Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions, on Friday (today).
