Ex-PM Gillani gets protective bail in eight corruption cases

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday granted seven-day protective bail to former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani in eight corruption cases.

The court has also ordered Gilani to submit surety bonds of Rs0.1 million against each of the cases.

The order against the former prime minister was issued after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented a challan(charge sheet) with 12 new cases — relating to multi-billion rupee scandal in the Trade Development Authority (TDAP) — registered against him before the court. PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim was also accused in the same scam.

Speaking to media, Gillani another new has been framed against him. He told he would appear before the court tomorrow to seek bail in the new case.

He said FIA doesn’t take action without the will and approval of the government.

Gillani was of the view that Asif Ali Zardari was disheartened when he gave a statement yesterday’s. No one can accuse the PPP of involvement in terrorism, he added.

Senior PPP leader and lawyer for ex-PM Gillani, Farooq H. Naek said Asif Ali Zardari stayed in jail for 11 years and no case was ever proven against him.

He said Zardari was a brave man and will face the prevailing situation.
