Ex-teacher accused of ‘illicit affair’ with student gets bail, faces curbs
TEXAS: A woman from Texas was arrested and charged for having an illicit affair with a 13-year-old student earlier this year and recently the accused appeared in court with the latter slapping several curbs on the ex-teacher.
The case against Alexandria Vera, the middle school teacher accused of having a long-term sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy, will continue after being rescheduled by a judge, reported the news website Chron..
The 24-year-old former Aldine ISD teacher is free on a $100,000 bail, but has to wear a GPS ankle monitor, stay away from schools and have no contact with the teen who allegedly impregnated her.
State District Judge Michael McSpadden, who set conditions of her bond, including an 8 p.m. curfew and limited internet use after she was arraigned in June, approved the continuance Tuesday.
Soon after she was caught, Vera turned herself over to police after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
“She turned herself in, in the company of a bail agent. Bail has been provided and she has just left,” The Independent reported Lt Brady Fitzgerald of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as saying.
Reports said that the relationship between Ms Vera and the boy began when he was a student of hers in summer school last year at Stovall Middle School.
Court documents reveal that the relationship apparently had the blessing of the boy’s family. Ms Vera told police she initially resisted the advances of a boy who was assigned to her English class at the start of the school year.
But according to the court documents, a school police officer said Ms Vera had admitted to having a relationship with the student which lasted from September 2015 to the end of January 2016.
Mr Vera claimed she and the teenager were in love, and that has been introduced to his family as his girlfriend. The boy’s parents have reportedly accepted the relationship and have including her in family gatherings.
