Famine claims two more lives in Mithi; toll reaches 39

MITHI: Two more children perished in the drought-hit Tharparkar due to famine-like situation haunting the district for months. Death toll of children has now reached 39, ARY News reported.

The latest deaths were reported from Chahchro where a newborn baby, 12-day old, breathed his last. While another newborn baby died at the Civil Hospital, Mithi.

Scores of children are admitted in Tehsil Diplo, Islamkot, Chahchro and Nangarparkar while several others are also being admitted.

Despite numerous directives from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the health department officials could not make dispensaries functional.

While Tharparkar district administration has confirmed deaths of 275 children in last 11 months due to famine.
