Fatemi, US security adviser discuss regional situation

WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s aide on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi met United States National Security Adviser Susan Rice in Washington and discussed the overall regional situation, ARY News reported.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Fatemi discussed key issues of the South Asian region with the US top national security official Rice, including Indian hostilities at the Line of Control (LoC) and occupied Kashmir. The two officials also discussed bilateral relations.

Fatemi said that Indian forces are targeting Pakistani civilians along different parts of the Line of Control.

Rice expressed concern over the tensions between Pakistan and India. She also lauded Pakistan’s efforts for peace in the region. “All countries have to play their role for peace in the region,” she added.

Fatemi earlier met Chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Services and former presidential candidate Senator John McCain and discussed regional security and bilateral ties with them.

The situation on the Line of Control along with Pak-Afghan relations also came under discussion in these meetings.
