PM announces Rs 341bn relief package for peasants

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday announced a relief package of over Rs 340 billion for the peasants, ARY News reported.

He made this announcement at a Kisan convention in Islamabad. Speaking on the occasion, the PM said package envisages direct cash assistance to the farmers, relief in prices of agriculture inputs, provision of agriculture loans and simplying the procedure of loans.

Mr. Sharif announced that Rs 40 billion will be spent for payment of cash grants to the small growers of rice and cotton.

“The government has decided to give cash assistance of Rs 5000 per acre to the farmers having land of 12.5 acre,” he said.

The PM said floods and rains have inflicted heavy losses to the cotton farmers.  Therefore, the goverment has decided to give cash assistance of Rs 5000 to the cotton grower on the pattern of rice growers.
