FIFA World Cup: Jeers, boos highlight Iran, Nigeria match

TOP NEWS

CURITIBA: Boos and Jeers from the Brazilian fans highlighted the goalless FIFA World Cup match played between Islamic Republic of Iran and Nigeria at Baixada Arena at Curitiba, ARY News reports.

Iran filled their line up with several defenders whereas Nigeria was looking favorites to win the match due to the fact that two of their players were playing the English Premier League.

The two sides were clearly a case of misfits rather than World Cup stars. They did not capitalize in any of their plays and their passes went to players in the opposite teams.

However, the Nigerian team had managed to score but referee denied the goal whereas Nigerian defender denied Iran the chance to take the lead when goal keeper captain Vincent Enyeama saved a header on target by Iranian striker Reza Ghoochannejhad.

The African side overall were the far better side in the match as they dominated the possession, shots on target and penalty corners but failed to make anything out of their chances. (Reuters)
