Filmmaker arrested for links with ‘top drug racket’

MUMBAI: The security authorities have busted India’s biggest drug racket and recovered 23,500 drugs with an estimated worth of Rs 4,700 crore in the international market.

According to reports, a Bollywood producer has been arrested in the connection.

“It is India’s biggest drug racket busted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence . I think it should also be the world’s biggest, as the seizure of mandrax tablets (methaqualone), is around 23,500 kg. Its international value is estimated between Rs 4,500-Rs 4,700 crore,” DRI Director General Jayant Misra told a news agency.

Misra said: “DRI’s Mumbai zonal unit got the tip off. It was further developed with the help of Border Security Force. A warehouse in Rajasthan’s Udaipur city housing the drugs was busted on October 28.

 

“In this connection, DRI arrested Bollywood producer Subhash Dudani from Mumbai on October 29,” he added.

In June this year, a high-profile sex racket was busted by police in Mumbai. The racket was being run under the guise of a production house, at Versova. Cops arrested a 24-year-old model who was running the gang in Versova and rescued two models.

The police had received information about the illegal activites at the flat by an NGO called Indian Rescue Mission, after which raid was conducted.

According to reports, India Rescue Mission president James Varghese got information that Rekha Vaishnav, who claimed to be a model, was running the immoral business under the guise of a production house named ‘VR Entertainment’.

Rekha used to lure aspiring models to come and get a break in Bollywood and later force them to work on her directions. According to cops, many businessman and known faces of Bollywood were in touch with Rekha.
