Five die in boiler explosion in Gujranwala factory

GUJRANWALA: The rooftop of a factory building in Gujranwala caved in after boiler explosion resulting in death of at least five labourers, ARY News reported.

Scores of persons were injured in the incident, while several trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure.

The rescue workers were engaged in relief operation to retrieve the trapped people. Rescue 1122 workers have transferred several injured to Civil Hospital Gujranwala.

According to rescue officials over 30 injured have been recovered from the debris and shifted to hospital. The rescue work was still underway to trace the people trapped under the collapsed building.

DCO Gujranwala Amir Jan visited the spot of the incident. He DCO criticized the safety measures in the factory and said that relief workers facing difficulties due to scattered acid in the premises.

The hospital administration has declared emergency in the Trauma Centre of Civil Hospital to tackle the situation.

According to reports the police has arrested the owner and the manager of the factory.
